Frequently asked questions
Is this medical advice?
No. QR & Barcode Scanner gives general information based on product labels and public databases. It is not medical advice and can be incomplete or out of date. Always read the label on the package, and ask a doctor, dietitian or pharmacist about allergies, pregnancy, medication or any health condition.
Do I need an account?
No. Scanning, product details and allergen and health warnings work without an account and are never limited. You only need a free account for AI label reading (2 reads a month for free), cloud backup and the paid plans, Standard and Premium.
Where does the product data come from?
Product information comes from Open Food Facts and its sister projects Open Beauty Facts, Open Pet Food Facts and Open Products Facts, which are available under the Open Database License (ODbL), plus contributions from our users that are reviewed by our team. If a product is missing, you can add it from the app.
Is my family's health data uploaded?
No. Family profiles – ages, pregnancy, allergies, diets and conditions – are stored only on your device. With Standard or Premium you can make a cloud backup; family profiles are included only if you turn this on separately and give your explicit consent. The backup is sent encrypted in transit.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Scanning, your pantry, the shopping list, the QR generator and products you have looked up before work without a connection. Looking up new products and AI label reading need internet. In the business app, scans are queued on the device and synced when you are back online.
Which barcodes are supported?
All common retail and logistics codes: EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, ITF-14, Codabar, QR codes, DataMatrix, PDF417 and Aztec – including GS1 DataMatrix, GS1-128 and GS1 Digital Link with batch and expiry data. QR codes for Wi-Fi, contacts, links, email, phone numbers, events and text open with the right action.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open the settings and choose to delete your account. This removes your account and the data linked to it from our servers. You can also email privacy@example.com. Business owners can delete their organization in the web panel. Details are in our privacy policy.
